Chennai, December 28, Jankranti News, : —- Tamil hero, DMDK leader Captain Vijayakanth passed away. He was admitted to MIOT International Hospital, Chennai with respiratory problem. He was diagnosed with covid in health tests. Due to difficulty in breathing, he was placed on a ventilator but was given treatment but to no avail. As the condition worsened, Vijayakanth breathed his last today at 10 o’clock in the morning. This was announced by the Secretary of Tamil Nadu Health Department.

71-year-old Vijayakanth has been suffering from serious health problems for a year. He was admitted to MIOT International Hospital in Chennai on 18th of last month with cold, cough, sore throat and respiratory problems. He recovered after treatment and reached home on December 11. But just then the news of his death made the rounds. But his wife Premalatha denied the rumours. But before two weeks passed, he breathed his last on Thursday morning after contracting Covid Vairus and once again suffering from respiratory problems. Vijayakanth made his mark in the Tamil film industry.. After that he also entered politics. Tamil actor Vijayakanth entered politics while doing films on the side.

On 14 September 2005, he founded a party called Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK). In the 2006 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the DMDK contested all the seats. But only Vijayakanth won that assembly election and entered the assembly for the first time. Again he won the 2011 assembly elections. He continued as the Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly between 2011-16. He represented the assembly from Virudhachalam in 2006 and Rishivandiam assembly in 2011. Apart from being an actor and politician, he also gained fame as a producer and director.
