Dibrugarh (Jankranti News) Arnab Sarma: A clash between police and locals was reported in Golaghat district of Assam on Saturday on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.  The clash erupted at a Shivmela in Shiv Mandir of the Khumtai Tea Estate. Khumtai and Kamargaon Police conducted a joint operation where they went to evacuate the gambling dens near the mela. On seeing the police coming the gamblers tried to flee and during the rush, a man identified as Arun Kurmi fell into a pond. Later he was rescued by the joint efforts of police and locals. Due to this incident, the clash broke out taking in the advantage of darkness and a few attacked the police also. The situation in the area is currently tensed due to the clash that broke out on Saturday.
