Mp Jankranti News (Assam) : After the Wednesday morning’s horrific road accident that took place in Golaghat district’s Dergaon, Assam, the Assam police has issued a Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and asked the people going for picnic to follow the SOP to prevent any road mishaps. 

The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that has been put to regulate these picnic parties includes. 

1. That there should be no overcrowding of the picnic going vehicles.

2. There should be no trading of any illicit liquor in or around the picnic spots.

3. The drivers of the vehicles are barred to consume any intoxicant before driving.

4. There should be no loud music on the vehicles. 

5. The local police is adviced to conduct continuous raids on the dhabas where illicit liquors are sold.

6. It is strictly adviced that there should not be any movement of picnic parties before sunrise and after sunset.

7. The ongoing people for picnic is adviced to inform the local police station about the origin and destination of travel.

8. The local Police should have one surveillance unit group, if required in assistance with VDPs in every picnic spot to detect any illegal activity in or around the picnic spots.

9. Sufficient lighting facilities to be provided in and around the vulnerable picnic spots.

10. Sufficient parking area should be present in every picnic spots.

11. The bus drivers who are responsible for transportation of the picnic parties should be properly briefed and should be in proper footwear.

12. The picnic parties are strictly adviced to ensure that no movement takes place during the fog hours.

The Assam Police have further mentioned that the above points are suggestive in nature and not exhaustive. Thus, the District Police with the assistance of the DTO and other enforcement agencies should ensure that no such accident takes place. 

In Assam it is usually observed that picnic parties are at peak in the month of December and January. This period is conducive for picnics and the people in Assam in large number organises such picnics in various picnic spots. But sadness strucks because of the road accidents during the vehicular movement of these picnic parties due to various reasons. 

Hence, the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been put in place to regulate the movement of these picnic parties so that no other such horrific accidents occur like that of the Dergaon road accident which claimed the precious lives of 12 people eith several others severely injured.
