Dibrugarh (Jankranti News) Arnab Sarma: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) promised to take action against contractors for not providing face masks or hand gloves to several workers engaged in manual de-siltation of drains in various parts of the city. 

The GMC has engaged a few contractors to de-silt 575 drains and five river channels with an aim to make the city flood-free. The city, experienced the worst flooding last monsoon, and the civic body is working to mitigate the worsening flood issue.

The city always experience flooding due to poor drainage systems and rapid urbanization. The drains remain jammed most of the time and the water cannot escape in such a situation causing flash flood in the city. 

The contractors are violating the rules for their own benefits and a lot of complaints are being given by the labourers to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation.
