Islamabad, January 30, Jankranti News, :— Pakistan court sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan to ten years in prison on Tuesday (today).  Imran Khan’s political party ‘Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’ announced in a statement that a Pakistani court has sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan to 10 years in prison under the Official Secrets Act for leaking government secrets during an interview in Lahore on June 2, 2023.  The court said that Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi were being punished as the allegations in the leak of official secret documents were true.  Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf PTI Party spokesperson Zulfakir Bukhari said that his close friend and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was also sentenced to ten years.  Zulfakir Bukhari announced that this verdict will be challenged in the Supreme Court.

The Islamabad High Court recently stayed the trial court’s sentence to Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case.  But he was arrested again in the case of leakage of official secret documents. Imran Khan is currently in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.  In this case, the Federal Investigation Agency of Pakistan presented a charge sheet against Imran Khan and Qureshi in September last year.  In view of security concerns, special court judge Abdul Hasnat Zulkarnain conducted the trial and gave the verdict in the jail itself.  Now Imran Khan will have to serve this 10-year sentence in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, Pakistani media said.  It is noteworthy that this judgment was issued before the parliamentary elections to be held in Pakistan on February 8.
