Mumbai, January 5, Jankranti News,: —- Controversial IPS officer Rashmi Shukla has been appointed as Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) .  This is the first time that a woman officer has been appointed as DGP of Maharashtra.  Currently Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Pansalkar is holding additional charge as DGP.  Rashmi Shukla, a 1998 batch IPS officer, is currently the Director General of Seema Sashastra Bal (SSB).  Rashmi Shukla has been appointed to replace DGP Rajneesh Sheth, who retired on December 31.

When BJP leader Fadnavis was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Rashmi Shukla served as the State Intelligence Chief.  At that time, she faced allegations of tapping the phones of opposition leaders, during which the opposition staged large-scale protests in the assembly.  Then two cases were also registered against her, but the courts dismissed these cases.

However, Rashmi Shukla has denied all allegations of wrongdoing and claimed that she acted in the interests of national security and public service.
