 According to the details provided by the Railway Police, on March 21 at 2.10 pm, a huge tree fell on the tracks at Mandara near Pacchanadi between Padil and Jokatte station, Mangaluru, Karnataka state.  .  At the same time Matsyagandha Express is going from Mangaluru to Mumbai.  Chandravathi, a 70-year-old woman who noticed this, sensed the danger.  She wanted to stop the train anyway.  So thinking with the spirit of time, she brought a red cloth and waved it like a flag in front of the train. Matsyagandha Express loco pilot was alerted.  The train immediately braked and stopped near the place where the tree fell.
 A 70-year-old woman named Chandravati from Mangalore lives with her family.  There is a railway track near their house.  On the 21st of last month, Chandravati saw a tree falling on the railway track.  She told the railway officials about this and ran home to alert them to avoid any accident.  Meanwhile, as the train horn sounded, Chandravati acted on the spirit of time.  She ran back to the track holding a red cloth to stop the train anyway.  She ran along the track with the red cloth in her hand waving in the air.
Loco pilot of Matsyagandha Express became alarmed after seeing a red cloth from a distance.  The train immediately braked and stopped near the place where the tree fell.  The loco pilot, who noticed a fallen tree on the track, breathed a sigh of relief that a major accident had been averted.  The loco pilot praised Chandravati for alerting the railway driver.  Chandravati, who saved the lives of the passengers, was honored by the railway authorities after the matter was reported to the higher authorities.
