Dergaon, Golaghat District, January 3, Jankranti News, : —- A fatal road accident took place in the state of Assam.  A bus carrying passengers collided with an oncoming truck in Balijan area near Dergaon in Golaghat. 14 people lost their lives in this accident.  More than 25 passengers were seriously injured.

 According to the police, the accident took place around 5 am on Wednesday.  A bus carrying 45 passengers from Golaghat to Tinsukia collided with a coal truck coming on the same way.  Golaghat District SP Rajen Singh informed the media that 14 people lost their lives on the spot and more than 25 others were seriously injured in this incident.

 Immediately after receiving the information about the accident, the police reached the spot and started rescue operations.  The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals.  Many of them seem to be in serious condition.  Police officials believe that the death toll is likely to increase due to the high severity of the accident.  The police said that a case has been registered and investigation has been started.
