Chennai, February 10, (Jankranti news) Venkata T Reddy : Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice U U Lalit has opined that there is no need to change the collegium system currently being followed regarding the appointment of High Court and Supreme Court judges. Participating in a #ThinkEdu2023 Conclave# held in Chennai on Thursday, he made key comments on the judiciary, stating that legal education should not be limited to universities and colleges and should be available to common people.
Like medical students, law students should also have mandatory internship to work for rural people and understand their problems. About 66 percent of people in the country are living in poverty and only 15 percent are getting legal aid services, he said. Former CJI UU Lalit expressed concern that poor people in rural areas are taking loans at high interest rates to fight for cases.
