ASSAM: Polling in 5 Lok Sabha constituencies starts today.

JANKRANTI NEWS (ASSAM) : The polling for the first phase of the Lok Sabha election 2024 in five constituencies of Assam starts today from 7 am and will continue till 5 pm.

The five constituencies of Assam that will go to the polls in the first phase are Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Kaziranga and Sonitpur.

A total electorate of 84,47,869 comprising of 43,64,859 women voter, 42,82,887 male voter and 123 third genders are eligible to exercise their votes in the first phase.

All the five seats of the first phase in Assam are general or unreserved constituencies. There are 11 candidates in Kaziranga, 8 in Sonitpur, 9 in Lakhimpur, 4 in Jorhat and 3 in Dibrugarh.

The total number of polling stations in the constituencies that are going to the polls today is 10001 of which 2357 are in Kaziranga, 2068 in Jorhat, 1923 in Dibrugarh, 1878 in Sonitpur and 1775 in Lakhimpur.

There are 92 model polling stations, while 11 polling stations are managed by PwD (person with disabilities). There are also 752 female managed polling stations.

Security arrangements have been made at all the polling stations. Around 106 companies of security personnel have been deployed for the first phase of the election.

Among the prominent candidates in the first phase seats in Assam are Union Minister and BJP nominee Sarbananda Sonowal (Dibrugarh), AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi (Dibrugarh), Deputy Leader of the Congress in the outgoing Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi (Jorhat), sitting MP and BJ’s Topon Kumar Gogoi (Jorhat), MLA and former State BJP president Ranjit Dutta (Sonitpur), Rajya Sabha member and BJP nominee Kamakhya Prasad Tasa (Kaziranga) and incumbent BJP MP Pradan Baruah (Lakhimpur).

A total of 40,004 polling and presiding officers will be engaged in the first phase and ballot units, control units and VVPATs will be put to use.
