JANKRANTI NEWS (ASSAM) : The second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 with polling to take place in five constituencies of Assam started today from 7 am and will continue till 5 pm.
The five constituencies that are going in the polls in the second phase are Darrang-Udalguri, Nagaon, Diphu, Karimganj and Silchar.
Altogether, 61 candidates (59 make and 2 female) are in the fray in the five constituencies. There are 24 candidates in Karimganj, 13 in Nagaon, 11 in the Darrang-Udalguri seat, 8 in the Silchar and 5 candidates in Diphu.
The total number of polling stations in the five constituencies is 9133 out of which 2622 are in Darrang-Udalguri, 2083 in Nagaon, 1660 in Karimganj, 1551 in Silchar and 1217 in Diphu. Out of the total polling stations, 8227 are in rural areas and 906 are in urban areas.
A total of 10793 Ballot Units, 9133 Control Units and 9133 VVPATs will be used in the second phase of the election in the five constituencies of Assam.
The total number of general electors in the five constituencies is 77,09,276 as updated by the Chief Election Officer of Assam. Out of the total 38,78,667 are male, 38,30,439 are female and 170 are from the third gender.
Among the prominent faces in the second phase seats are State Minister and BJP nominee Parimal Suklabaidya (Silchar), incumbent BJP MP Kripanath Mallah (Karimganj), Amarsing Tisso of BJP (Diphu), BJP’s sitting MP Dilip Saikia (Darrang-Udalguri), sitting MP of Congress Pradyut Bordoloi (Nagaon), former MP Madhab Rajbanshi of Congress (Darrang-Udalguri), Joyram Engleng of Congress (Diphu), Hafiz Rashid Admed Choudhury of Congress (Karimganj), Surya Janta Sarkar of Congress (Silchar), and Deputy Leader of the AIUDF Legislature Party Aminul Islam (Nagaon).
