Dibrugarh (Jankranti News) Arnab Sarma: Justice Sandeep Mehta has been appointed the next Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court following the retirement of Justice RM Chhaya, according to information released on Sunday by the Ministry of Law and Justice. In May 2011, the Rajasthan High Court nominated Justice Sandeep Mehta as a senior judge. He will retire in January 2025. A recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegiums led to his appointment as Chief Justice. “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Sandeep Mehta, Judge of the High Court of Rajasthan, to be the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office,” the ministry’s notice stated. It may be mentioned that Justice Mehta enrolled as an advocate in 1986. He had served as the vice chairman of the Bar Council of Rajasthan from 2004–05 and as chairman in 2010.
