New Delhi, March 22, Jankranti News, : —- Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Thursday night in the ‘Delhi Liquor Policy’ case. Kejriwal was the first Chief Minister in independent India to be arrested while in office. Aam Aadmi Party leaders have condemned the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by Enforcement Directorate officials. In protest against Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, Aam Aadmi Party leaders along with activists took out massive protests in front of the CM’s house. Security forces were heavily deployed. Police have imposed Section 144 in the vicinity of the house.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday summoned Kejriwal for the ninth time to appear in the money laundering case related to Delhi’s liquor policy. In this background, Kejriwal approached the Delhi High Court seeking interim protection from ED arresting him forcibly. The Delhi High Court, which heard the petition on Thursday morning, directed the ED to show evidence against Kejriwal. Adjourned the hearing till 2.30 pm. As per the orders of the Delhi high court, the ED officials submitted the sealed cover containing the evidence documents against Kejriwal to the Delhi high court.
The Delhi high court bench said that after examining the documents submitted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials, Kejriwal cannot be protected from arrest in this case. ED officials reached Kejriwal’s house and conducted searches within hours of the High Court orders. Arvind Kejriwal’s family members including the data on their phones were transferred to the laptop and seized. The news spread that Kejriwal will be arrested in this order. With this, Kejriwal’s legal team approached the Supreme Court and asked the court to include this issue in the urgent list and conduct an investigation. Meanwhile, the ED officials detained and arrested Arvind Kejriwal. An ED official said that Kejriwal will be produced in a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court on Friday. ED officials said that custody will be sought for investigation.
