JANKRANTI NEWS (ASSAM) : Assam’s Tinsukia district has become the North-East’s first place to eradicate the legacy waste via Bio-Mining. Back in 2023, the Tinsukia District Administration with other five Municipal Boards in the district namely Tinsukia, Doom-dooma, Digboi, Margherita & Makum Municipal Board had started this initiative of making the district legacy waste free.

About 1.53 lakh MT of waste has been treated so far which freed up 30+ acres of land for developmental projects.

The project was supported by Oil India Limited’s CSR fund. This project demonstrates the Assam government’s commitment to its Green Agenda, in accordance with the guidelines set by the NGT. The agency responsible for the project’s execution is M/s Call And Fix.

Sri Swapneel Paul, Tinsukia District Commissioner stated that the combined waste treatment has reclaimed over 80 Bighas of land which can now be used for development projects.

A MOU has been signed with the Dalmia Cement, where the Refuse-derived fuel (RDF) produced during the process of bio-mining is sent for use. This initiative has positioned Assam’s Tinsukia as a model district in land reclamation through the bio-mining of legacy wastes.
