Jankranti News (Assam) : The current flood situation in Assam has worsens further in the last 24 hours with around 53,343 people affected in six districts.
Dhemaji is still the most severely impacted district with 23,942 people affected by the flood, followed by Sonitpur with 11,631 people, Lakhimpur with 8,527 people, Dibrugarh with 7,455 people, Sonitpur with 5,626 people, Dhubri with 1,946, Jorhat with 960 people and Chirang with 1,788 people.
Three rivers namely Beki, Disang and Brahmaputra are currently flowing above the danger level.
154 villages in 19 revenue circles are underwater and 2933.25 hectares of cropland have been damaged across Assam by the flood. Around 18,030 animals including poultry have also been affected.
The Inland Water Transport, SDRF, and NDRF forces undertook six rescue operations in Dibrugarh and Sonitpur districts, evacuating 46 people by boat.
Erosion occurrences have been reported in the districts of Bongaigaon, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur and Tinsukia.
Meanwhile, incidents of roads and breaching of embankments have also been reported across Karimganj and Sivasagar districts, while infrastructure damages were listed at six Anganwadi Centres in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
The Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati has issued orange alert for the state for next days and yellow alert from August 29 to 31 as Assam is currently witnessing heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the state resulting in severe flood situation.
