ASSAM: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma flags off 200 AC e-Buses in Guwahati.

 Jankranti News (Assam) : Welcoming the New Year, the Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma marked the very first day of 2024 by launching 200 AC Electric Buses for the people of Guwahati to address the air pollution concerns of the Guwahati city. This decision aims at introducing a green and sustainable public transport system. 

Charging stations have been strategically located at various points to support the electric vehicle infrastructure system. Moreover the buses are fitted with CCTV camera’s to enhance passenger safety and particularly focusing on woman’s security. The buses are also fitted with GPS tracking for effective traffic control. 

During the launch of the electric buses by the Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, he emphasized the Government’s responsibility towards the environment.

Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma added that the climate change is one of the biggest challenge in the world and this initiative of the launch of the electric buses on the first day of the New Year proves the commitment of the Assam Government to a transperent, green and sustainable future. 

The Assam Government has invested Rs 261 crore in this eco-friendly initiative. Soon the diesel powered bus services will be stopped as soon as 500 such electric buses start plying and the Assam Cabinet has decided to convert Guwahati’s public transport to electric vehicles by 2025.
