which is considered to be the semi-final before the general elections, the first battle has started.  Assembly election polling has started in Chhattisgarh and Mizoram.  Out of the total 90 seats in Chhattisgarh, the first phase of polling has started today for 20 Assembly seats.  Polling for all 40 constituencies in Mizoram started today at 7 AM.
 Of the 20 constituencies in Chhattisgarh’s first election, 12 constituencies are in the Naxal-affected Bastar region.  Polling will be held in these 12 constituencies from 7 am to 3 pm.  In other locations it will continue from 8 am to 5 pm.  About 40 lakh people exercised their right to vote.  A total of 223 candidates are in the fray.  Out of these 20 Assembly seats, Congress won 17 seats in the last election.  Later, in the second phase of polling, polling for 70 assembly seats will be held on 17th of this month.
 In Mizoram, the polling started at 7 am and will end at 4 pm.  174 candidates are contesting in total 40 assembly seats.  More than 8.57 lakh people will exercise their right to vote.  The Election Commission has set up 1,276 polling stations for them.  30 of these polling centers are located on inter-state and international borders, so heavy forces have been deployed.  The results will be declared on December 3 in both the states.
